Dear friends,
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you—my new book, Queer and Christian: Reclaiming Our Bible, Our Faith, and Our Place at the Table, is now available for pre-order!
This book is a labor of love, born from my own journey of reconciling faith and sexuality. It's an invitation for all of us—queer, Christian, and beyond—to reclaim our sacred texts, our faith, and our place at the table of grace. In Queer and Christian, I dive into Scripture, challenge harmful interpretations, and offer a vision of faith that celebrates who we are, just as we are.
I’m honored that Bishop Gene Robinson, the first openly gay and partnered bishop in historic Christianity, wrote the foreword for this book. His words deeply moved me, and I wanted to share this teaser from the foreword:
"Anselm of Canterbury, medieval scholar and theologian of the 11th century, famously described a worthy Christian life as 'faith seeking understanding.' A friend and mentor of mine, Miguel de la Torre, professor of social ethics and Latino studies at Iliff Theological Seminary, maintains that this understanding of our faith (and ultimately, faith in the One who is our salvation) always comes from the margins, from the fringes of society and institutional religion... In Jesus’s time, they were often prostitutes, tax collectors, foreigners, and women, who had the outrageously optimistic notion that he was speaking to them when he said 'Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.' (Matthew 11:28). Jesus loved them all, treating them with the dignity rightly afforded to any beloved child of God... You might even say that these marginalized, 'lowly,' would-be disciples were 'queer!' Or at least that’s what Brandan Robertson contends in his remarkable new book, Queer and Christian...”
Reading Bishop Robinson's words reminded me why I wrote this book—to affirm that queer people are not only welcome but are essential to the heart of the Christian story. Queer and Christian is for anyone who has ever questioned whether they belong, and I believe it offers hope and healing for those on the margins.
I would be so grateful if you pre-ordered Queer and Christian today. Pre-orders are critical to the success of the book, helping it reach more people who need to hear this message of love, inclusion, and belonging.
Thank you for your support, and I can’t wait for you to read this book!
With gratitude,
Brandan
